The area for specialist clinics at Box Hill Hospital were part of the old building and despite some refurbishment probably during the 80's, were some 60 years old. Patient numbers expanded over the years and the waiting area was rather like being jammed into a hen house waiting to take part in a chook raffle. Despite their cramped work conditions, the reception staff were always friendly.
But, move on to 2016, and the whole area has been redesigned, resulting in a spacious, open and light space. Furnishings now match and are in restful shades and patterns. I talked to some staff - reception and nursing - on the day of my appointment in late January and whilst they experienced IT teething problems at first (and who doesn't? ) the difficulties were sorted pretty quickly. As a patient, I felt I was in a calm and relaxed atmosphere as I waited and then found the new consulting rooms were larger with more natural light. The net effect was a good patient experience.
