"No doctor available"

About: Boort District Health

(as the patient),

Needed a doctor, but the hospital didn't have anyone available. Had to drive to Bendigo 100km away to see a doctor. Couldn't understand the nurse.

Dear No Treatment,

I can understand your distress about coming to a health service and expecting to be treated locally. I know that it is often difficult and inconvenient being transferred to a larger regional centre. I followed up your complaint with our Director of Medical Services. His advice based on your past clinical history is that you really needed to be transferred and treated at a larger facility. Boort District Health only has permissions to run an Urgent Care Centre. That means we provide 24/7 nursing support and doctors are available face to face during the week and they are on an On Call Roster 6.00pm Friday to 9.00am on Monday. The On Call system operates for public holidays. All serious cases will always be transferred to a health service with more treatment options.

The issue with the communication with a member of the nursing team is one I have followed up. We strive to deliver Person Centred Care and it is important that every patients needs and concerns are clearly understood by our service.

I would like to thank you for your time in posting your concern. The issue you have raised has certainly made us put improvements in place.

Regards

Vicki Poxon

CEO
