My mother was a patient in the palliative care unit. She passed away earlier this year, having been at the hospital for five days. During that time, the staff were absolutely amazing. We only had a couple of hiccups, thankfully. One was a miscommunication with an agency nurse and the other was regarding protocol vs oncology directives. Both times, as soon as a different staff member noticed, the issues were handled wonderfully and with care.
I was incredibly thankful to be able to remain with my mother from the time she was admitted to the time she was placed into the funeral company's vehicle. I felt respected, cared for and welcome. My mother was treated with care, respect and thoughtfulness. I look back on the most exhausting and emotional time of my life with incredible gratitude for the staff and the facilities who helped make this period of time bearable and special.
My only criticism would be that I was not informed regarding meal options for me, but in all honesty, if that is all that I can complain about I am pretty happy.
