"Maroondah ED"

About: Maroondah Hospital

(as a relative),

Wow, the professionalism and compassionate care shown to my sister presenting to ED after earlier discharge from a ward recently was absolutely first rate. My sister had a full mastectomy for cancer and being in hospital for it for a week - all the ward nurses, doctors etc etc were awesome too. Becoming unwell on the way home and having to return to hospital was extremely upsetting and unsettling for her. From the second we presented to Triage, we (my sister most importantly), were shown and given nothing but the highest level of professionalism, compassion and empathy. Stephanie Jess B, and Doctor, thank you so much for making such a difference during an extremely difficult time for my sister. It really is the little things at times that make a horrible situation bearable. I always say, it doesn't matter how much "fancy, high tech stuff " a hospital has, it really is the staff who "make it or break it"... the situation / experience. Again, many thanks.

Dear Relieved Thankful Relative

Thank you for sharing your story on Patient Opinion after what must have been a very difficult and challenging time for you and your sister. It must have been quite an ordeal for you having to turn around but it was obviously the right thing to do and I am so pleased that everything worked out in the end. I can see that your sister got the right care when she needed it.

I agree with your comment also about the staff who "make or break" a hospital experience because at the end of the day, nothing good can be sustained without the staff to see or oversee what needs to be done. I was also particularly pleased to read about the "professionalism, compassion and empathy" in your story because I am specifically focussed this year on "courtesy and kindness, every time, everywhere." Sounds like it was all working well when you came to ED.

Thank you so much Relieved Thankful Relative again for taking the time to provide your feedback - it really does help us recognise where we do well and I will have great pleasure passing this on to the staff and the Maroondah Hospital management team too.

I trust that your sister is recovering well and if you need any further advice, please do not hesitate to let us know.

kind regards and thanks, Alan Lilly.
