I signed up to the Midwifery Group Practice in Broome, and the care and support provided by the midwives in the practice was second to none. My assigned midwife made contact for regular home visits, which allowed me to be in my own relaxed environment, and gave me the chance to have any and all of my questions, fears and concerns addressed. When appointments needed to be conducted at the hospital, I felt as though my midwife became my advocate. Especially when a doctor informed me that my baby was breech and I should think about booking a caesarean section (something that came as a shock to me). When my assigned midwife was unavailable, another midwife was able to assist, with not only the scheduled check-ups, but also in an on-call capacity. When the time came that I gave birth, I felt that I had specialised and personal care provided to me by the MGP both during and after, when I again received follow up care in my home.
I cannot recommend this service enough and hope that the midwives involved continue providing such wonderful care, and know just how big an impact they have on people’s lives.
Additionally, the care provided by the other staff on the maternity ward at Broome Hospital was exemplary. The midwives, nurses, surgeon, anaesthetist and other theatre staff tended to my needs with such professionalism and care. I was treated with the utmost of comfort and dignity throughout my few days in hospital, that I wish I could give them all a big hug to say thanks.
"Midwives second to none at Broome."
