Dear Flowers taken,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Patient Opinion.

I was sorry to hear of your experience and to be honest, quite surprised! This is certainly not usual practice in our wards. I am aware that sometimes individuals may have specific allergies and staff make all reasonable attempts to reduce exposure to the cause of these allergies, but it doesn't sound as though this was the case in your situation, and if it was, it certainly wasn't well communicated with you.

I understand your distress at having a heart-felt gift from your daughter being taken from you in this way and I am sorry that this was your experience.

I am happy to follow this issue up directly with the ward involved if you would like to contact me directly via email: jo.gatehouse@easternhealth.org.au.

I trust that you are on the road to recovery now and, once again, thank you for sharing your story with us.

Kind Regards,

Jo Gatehouse
