"Bad service at one clinic, great at another"

About: Central Highlands Healthcare GPs in the Flynn Electoral District

(as a carer),

Hubby needed his ears flushed out so I called a local Surgery told them the problem and they booked him in. We arrive for the appointment, doc has a look, sees the problem and takes him to the procedure room. He then tries to flush with cold water a couple of times then says, I haven't got time for this get some ear drops and come back in 5 days. Hubby was gobsmacked. He has had this procedure done many times so knows they normally use warm water and knows it matters the way the doctor holds the syringe. It would seem to us that this doctor failed in both areas and also in his manner. A couple of days later hubby was desperate for help so I once again called the same surgery to make a late afternoon appointment so Doctor had more time to do the procedure. I made sure the receptionist knew he needed more time. We arrive, get taken to the procedure room and once again Doctor flushes away with cold water, just spurting water in it seemed, no pressure, no suction, all the time telling him it's very dangerous and he will need a referral to a specialist. He made him sign a form (which seemed to me it was probably to gain more money from medicare for a procedure) and said sorry and sent us on the way, still hubby with fully blocked ears. The next day in utter desperation I called Emerald Medical Group. We had an appointment within half an hour. The nurse (not a doctor) flushed my husbands ears and within 2 minutes the worst ear was free of the built up dirt and wax and within another 2 minutes the other one was free also. Unbelievable! ! ! Had we taken the first doctors advise we would be waiting many months for a specialist appointment knowing full well it was an easy fix. Can't thank Emerald GP Superclinic for outstanding service and knowledge of the human body. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou

Thank you for letting us know of your experience. We are grateful that our Nursing Staff were able to help so promptly. Ear wax can be problematic, annoying and difficult to deal with at times. I would encourage a brief note to your regular clinic letting them know as well, there are always opportunities to change that come out of timely feedback.
