"I felt I mattered at Yarra Ranges Health."

About: Angliss Hospital / Maternity Yarra Ranges Health

(as the patient),

My husband and I got some gut wrenching news recently - we went in for our 13 week ultrasound only to find that our baby's heart had stopped beating some time ago. We had no warning signs that anything was wrong. It was a 'missed miscarriage'. After some not so great service at the Angliss hospital, we were scheduled in for a d&c at Yarra Ranges Health. I can not begin to describe the wonderful service I received from all staff - from the moment I walked in to reception, to the time I was leaving. Every single staff member made me feel that I mattered. And at such a difficult time, I can not explain how much that meant to me. They were so thorough, explained everything to me, assured me and put me at ease. During the most nerve wracking time (getting into that bed in the operating theatre) I was made to feel completely comfortable, everyone was chatting to me and so friendly. The doctor comfortingly held my hand as I went under. Recovery staff were also amazing. Thank you Yarra Ranges Health for making one of my darkest days a positive experience. I just wish you would open up a delivery ward so that next time, if I was to have a successful pregnancy, I could come back to you. Thank you.

Dear I Mattered

Thank you for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. I am so sorry to learn of your very sad situation and no doubt, this must have been quite traumatic for you, your husband and your family. I am so pleased to read that you received great care and service at Yarra Ranges Health and that this was sensitive to your situation and circumstances. I do hope that things have really improved now for you and your family and can appreciate that having a miscarriage must indeed be a traumatic time for you and your loved ones. Your feedback is also a reminder of what matters to patients and your comment about the doctor holding your hand reflects very well on a great act of compassion and kindness. I will have lots of pleasure passing on your feedback to staff and the local management team at Yarra Ranges Health.

As an aside, I am sorry though to read that things were not so good at the Angliss and I would be very happy to follow-up if you would like me to do that. If you would, then please feel free to email me privately at alan.lilly@easternhealth.org.au and I will do just that.

In the meantime, thanks again for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. If you would like me to follow-up further, I will look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards, Alan Lilly.
