"Operations are constantly cancelled"

About: The Townsville Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter has had her operation cancelled at least three times. When it was first decided she needed to have an operation, they told her that she could go to Ingham Hospital and have it there - though how she would get there and back no one knows - or she could wait two months for the operation at Townsville Hospital. My daughter decided to wait the two months. The operation was booked in, she fasted, went up, and was told it was cancelled. This has happened now three times. Each time she sees people going in ahead of her and yet her operation has been cancelled. It's just not good enough! I thought the waiting lists were suppose to be getting shorter. It's not like she hasn't paid her taxes most of her life. This needs to be addressed and the operations should not be cancelled at all.

Dear To Many Cancellations

Thank you for sharing your story with us.

I am sorry to hear of your daughter's experience as I can appreciate how frustrating and distressing it must be each time a planned operation is cancelled.

Please be assured that we endeavour to complete all procedures as scheduled. However circumstances beyond our control do require operations to be cancelled or rescheduled on some occasions. We sincerely regret that your daughter has unfortunately been subjected to cancellations on three occasions, as we do strive to minimise situations where people experience multiple cancellations.

We would like an opportunity to discuss this matter with you further. If you would like to do so, please contact staff in our Patient Liaison Office who will refer your enquiry to the appropriate area. Patient Liaison can be contacted on 4433 1087.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story with us. I wish your daughter all the best for her future operation and recovery.

With kind regards

Karina
