I presented at the local medical centre in the country town I live in with a racing heart rate that had begun suddenly and wouldn't slow. I was immediately attended to by calm and efficient nurses who took my history and remained reassuring throughout the whole process. The nurses were responsive to the doctor who was called in via Skype, and explained all the procedures to me clearly. Once my issue had resolved, the nurses remained thorough, explaining what to do should the issue happen again, and discussed with me a future treatment plan. Again all of this was professional, calm, reassuring and thorough. Cannot thank them enough!

Thank you for sharing your health care experience with us on Patient Opinion. We appreciate you taking the time to write and I was pleased to read about the high quality care you received. It speaks volumes about our team and also shows the importance of providing a calm reassuring environment and the positive impact it can have during very stressful times as you experienced.

The “Skype” that you spoke about is a wonderful service called the Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS). The ETS uses videoconferencing equipment to connect local doctors and nurses with highly trained, emergency medicine specialists based in Perth. The emergency medicine specialist is linked via videoconference, providing guidance to the local treating team. A consultation with an ETS doctor is just like any other ‘in person’ consultation and allows us to provide high quality specialist care close to home.
