"I felt so neglected during my time of need."

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as the patient),

After my surgery and recovery I was taken back to the ward. I was in extreme pain and had scheduled medication as well as medication for break through pain. I believe my night nurse neglected to check my blood pressure which I think was low post surgery and they didn't give me my pain medication. When queried multiple times as I was bawling in pain she told me to take paracetamol instead. She took away my straw cup that I was given so I could drink as I couldn't sit up. I felt that she forced me to sit up and my stomach bleed through my dressings and clothes instantly. She said she didn't have time to do my dressings which had now fallen off. I saw her proceeded to go and make a coffee for the patient in the next cubicle and chat with him whilst I was in pain and bleeding. I was taken to the toilet my another nurse who noticed the blood and I told her what had happened. She told my nurse to change the dressing straight away. Dressing was changed whist I was still sobbing in pain. Whilst doing dressing she told me she had forgotten my anti clotting medication which was an injection in the tummy. I tried through my tears to explain I was in severe pain and could she put the needle in another spot, she said no. I asked to wait until I had some pain relief, she said no and that if I obviously didn't want it was not her problem and seemed to storm off. I believe she also told my doctor I was depressed and was likely making up the pain. I had to explain that this was embarrassing for me and the pain was unbearable. I felt so neglected during my time of need. When I first came out of surgery I was in a lot of pain and she seemed resentful at having to get the doctor for me. A visitor went to ask for someone to help me go to the toilet. I believe her response was  - oh she wants up now with her level 10 pain. He asked if she was going to give me a catheter and it seemed she said no, he then asked if she wanted me to wet the bed, she said if I do it was my own fault but she wouldn't clean it so he said well you better take her to the toilet then. It's such a shame that the hard work and dedication of other Nurses can be over shadowed by someone who it seemed that instead of being caring was neglectful and cruel.
