"Lack of hearing services in Broome"

About: Broome Health Campus

(as the patient),

Previously I had my ears tested and was fitted with hearing aids by Australian Hearing. However as I no longer qualify for a concession card, I find there are no services visiting Broome. Apparently the nearest hearing services are located in Perth or Darwin around 2500 kilometres in each direction. Staff at Broome Hospital and Australian Hearing were very helpful in trying to solve this dilemma.

Dear peacerose

I'm hearing what you are saying! (Excuse the pun). It is frustrating not having a public hearing service, however we do have a very fine PATS (Patient Assisted travel Scheme) that helps all our clients commute to Perth for specialist appointments.

I am pleased to read the staff were helpful and caring.

I will discuss your story with our Regional Medical Director and seek his input.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Patient Opinion.

I hope you have a positive outcome with your hearing aids.

Kind regards

Maureen
