I had severe pain in my left arm, wrist and across my shoulder and up into my neck and at 74 you tend to at least check it out. I went to where the after hours clinic was and found it not only closed but gone! ! ! Apparently 2 months ago.
After some minor research I found out Eastern Health had opened up an after hours clinic just a fortnight ago. Thank goodness. However I also discovered that they had had no patients because none of the locals knew they were there.
The doctor on duty suggested I ring the ambo's because he wasn't happy with the ECG or my blood pressure. The ambo's were marvelous as they always are, they decided to take me to Maroondah Hospital (even though I have Private Health Insurance). Normally I would have insisted on going to Knox Private.
Well I was attended to within minutes, in a bed and hooked up to a heart tracing machine and blood tests were taken. I was not allowed to eat or drink and I hadn't had dinner. Eddie the volunteer patient liaison was wonderful, he allayed all my anxieties and in due course brought me some sandwiches and a cuppa. I had excellent medical treatment, very caring personal treatment and the doctor that attended to me explained the reason for all the pain. I have to congratulate Eastern Health for ensuring excellent health treatment in our hospitals and in the Yarra Valley.
