My mother was diagnosed with Diabetes by her GP, but was not treated correctly and was admitted to hospital with a reading in the high 20's for her sugar level. She was in hospital for eight days and returned home where she lives independently. Her sugar levels were still high and she was on insulin twice a day and tablets. A Diabetes Educator was allocated to her for home visits. These visits have been excellent and have helped my Mum get better. She is now off the insulin and only has one tablet to control her Diabetes. Having a caring professional advisor come to Mum's home has helped her return to good health and given her renewed confidence to manage her condition. This service is a credit to the health system and is extremely valuable to help elderly patients maintain their health and wellbeing at home.
