I had a full knee replacement on my left knee at Box Hill Hospital. I could not fault anything about my stay there. From there I went to Peter James Rehab in Burwood, again I could not fault the patient care I received. I then went to Yarra Ranges in Lilydale for the start of my rehab on my knee. I did 2 sessions of one on one with the physio. I was put into the ortho gym section and did my physio in there. On my second physio session I was put onto the bicycle, my knee was still very sore and still not very bendable. I couldn't reach the peddles, but was told to stretch my legs as that's good for my knee. I did half turns as I could no way do full circle turns. That night my heal was in enormous pain, my foot swelled up and I couldn't walk on it even with my crutches. I went to my doctor who told me my Achilles tendon was pulled and I'd have to go for an ultrasound. I had it done and it confirmed what damage was done to my heal. The tendon was ripped from the bone. I had to then go see an orthopaedic surgeon to see what was going to be done. I went to Maroondah Hospital and was told I would have to wear a shoe boot for two to three months, when I told the doctors and the physios and others how it happened with being put on the bicycle so soon after my op I believe they were horrified. This has put my recovery for my knee to a standstill because physio had stopped. I'm very upset and disappointed this has happened considering I was doing so good before this incident. This has made a huge impact on my recovery and my return to work.
