"My drug addiction"

About: Lives Lived Well - Dalby

(as a service user),

I was addicted to ice for 18 months. I tried to get clean but failed miserably and relapsed after 30 days of trying to get clean. I ran away from home, from my life, my family and my child. I was gone for 3 months in those 3 months I became lost, I became homeless and became very ill. I was using that much that my body went into shock and shut down mode. I was overdosing on my best friends floor and all my then partner could do was tell me to have more and I will be right. Something clicked into my brain that my partner was literally trying to kill me by getting me to inject more into my body. I thought this was not on so I called a friend of mine who has always been like a sibling to me and got me out of there and that situation. That same friend got me in contact with my family again. I decided I needed rehab or detox to get better for myself, my child and my family. So after calling over 40 centres and getting knocked back because I wasn't mentally unstable, DOCS (Department of Children's Services) didn't have my children and I didn't have a criminal conviction or didn't have the money to get into what I needed - they wouldn't help me pretty much. So my parents have a farm. I decided to take matters in my own hands and went to my parents farm and busted my butt off for two weeks straight with fencing and helping out with chores out there. I can honestly say 181 days later I am still going strong better then ever.

Lives lived well were the only place that welcomed me with open arms. It was not only good to talk to someone who I felt comfortable with, but also who had been through what I had been through as well. I would recommend them to anyone.

Dear My Drug Addiction,

What an amazing story of determination and transformation. Sometimes we all forget about the miraculous things we can do on our own with some support and guidance. Hard work pays off.

Thank you for letting us know what happened and how you are today.

All the best,
