"Negative patient experience"

About: Maroondah Hospital

(as the patient),

I felt I was yelled at by the nurse looking after me when I asked for help as I had a broken limb and couldn't do much for myself!

I was told I can obtain what I wanted myself and that I don't need any help and was yelled at.

Further, I believe the same nurse who looked after me complained about me to the ward manager who then came to see me and also yelled at me for asking for help. I told them that they were suppose to help given I'm a patient and expect respect and not to be yelled at for asking for help.

Dear unhappy patient

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on Patient Opinion. I would like to apologise for your negative experience in the ward.

I'm sorry that you felt yelled at on multiple occasions during your admission. This is clearly not what you or I expect our staff to speak with patients or staff.

We have been focussing on courtesy and kindness and based on your feedback, it would seem we have more work to do to make sure this is practiced with each and every interaction.

I trust you are well on the road to recovery and many thanks again.

Kind regards

David
