"Nursing staff went above and beyond at Sale Hospital."

About: Sale Hospital

(as the patient),

I was recently in the surgical ward at Sale Hospital. I just want to say that the staff were absolutely brilliant. The nursing staff don't only just do their normal duties, they also try to lift the spirits of very sick patients. They put a smile on your face and brighten your day making jokes etc. when you have to have things done to you and you feel like crap.

I found that all the staff no matter what shift, did this even though they were caring for really sick people and were very busy. I haven't been in hospital for a very long time and the care I received was exceptional. I was really sick and they made a horrible experience so much better.

The one small thing I would like to say is that choosing the right food was really hard when you're not with it because you're so sick and full of medication. I'm not sure how this could be fixed because I know the staff are all so busy, but maybe someone could help. I didn't eat much while I was in hospital because I ordered so badly and this doesn't help with your recovery.

Other than that staff were all fantastic and really made my experience so much better.

Dear Spirits Lifted

Thank you so much for your feedback.

Staff in our Surgical Ward will be heartened to read your story.

I too will get a great deal of pleasure from thanking our nurses for making such a positive difference for you and for your recovery.

With regard to supporting our sick patients to make good menu choices I will get a small group together including nurses, dietitians, food services staff and consumers to identify how we can do this better.

Please feel free to contact me on 51438660 or email me at frank.evans@cghs.com.au if you wish tell me more or perhaps you would like to join the group or attend a meeting.

I hope I will hear from you if that suits you.

Kind regards

Frank

Dear Spirits Lifted

Please accept my apologies for the lateness of this response.

I want to let you know that prior to Christmas we completed a comprehensive review of our menus following the gathering of feedback from patients, aged care residents, staff and visitors.

Our new menus are now being "rolled out".

I am also really excited to let you and other readers know that our new menus are compliant with healthy eating guidelines and that we have commenced work to fully upgrade our cafeteria to support people to make healthy choices and provide a great environment for staff, patients and visitors.

Kind regards

Frank
