"My child's injection drama"

About: Maroondah Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

My child had a problem with their shoulder so went to the Maroondah Hospital. The nurses were brilliant as were the sonographer and ultrasound person.

But the doctor giving the injection seemed to be pushing their own preference of not having an anaesthetic. While he did explain the option of having an anaesthetic, he seemed to indicate that it was pointless to have an injection to numb the area for another injection.

My child was very upset and felt pressured to not have the anaesthetic. I just want the doctor to be made aware that it is not his decision and he needs to respect the patient's decision.

Dear dodgy shoulder

Many thanks for providing your very balanced feedback on Patient Opinion.

I'm sorry that you didn't feel respected by the doctor and I agree, planning care needs to be done in partnership with patients and families. Its wonderful to hear the sonographer and nurses provided the balance with positive aspects of yours and your child's experience.

I trust your child is now well on the way to recovery and will enjoy the festive and holiday season. If you would like to provide more specific feedback, please feel free to contact me privately and directly at david.plunkett@easternhealth.org.au

Thanks again and kind regards.

David
