Recently, I had a bizarre accident, which left me unable to walk. I am on holiday here from the UK and was seen by the very lovely Dr Michael of 'S...' Medical Centre, who sent me immediately to Box Hill Hospital Emergency Department. From the moment I walked through their doors, I was treated with such care and empathy. After I'd given my details, I was taken to a waiting room where I was immediately given analgesics - so welcome after an afternoon, evening and morning of intense pain. I was then taken for xrays and admitted into the Short Stay ward for a CT scan. The results of the scan indicated a fracture. I was kept in overnight and everything the staff did for me was faultless. The Emergency Department seemed to run on wheels, so efficient was it! The following morning, I had visits from both a physiotherapist and an occupational health nurse - Sam and Natasha - both of whom talked me through the rudiments of using a leg brace, crutches, steps, a walker and a raised toilet seat - all of which are foreign to me, even though I'm no stranger to the NHS. I am scheduled to go back to the hospital fracture clinic shortly and was informed that a physiotherapist would be visiting me next week.
Can I congratulate Box Hill Emergency Department on a job very well done. My grateful thanks go to all those who helped me, including the nursing staff of the short stay ward and the very efficient Dr Daniel. Top notch!
