"Great Care at Geraldton Hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

I am just writing to let you know of my experience in the Geraldton Hospital recently.

Unfortunately my child was admitted with Appendicitis and had a Laparoscopic Appendicectomy the next day.

I would like to let you all know about the wonderful care we received over the 3 days we were there.

We would like to thank:

Jackie at DEMHS for her prompt care and the lovely doctor we saw via ETS who diagnosed appendicitis from afar. (I wasn’t convinced)

Matt at Triage in ED for his care and compassion (and light-hearted humour).

Dr L for his prompt service and gentle hand inserting the IV, which my child was dreading, and for organising the Surgical Team to review the case while they were in the department so there was no delay in treatment. (I still wasn’t convinced)

Sandy and the night shift team for making the stay in ED as short as possible and getting us up to the ward so I could get some much needed rest.

Laura, Tarni, Sharni, Carla and the rest of the Day Surgery staff who looked after my child so well pre and post op. They were caring and compassionate and even though they were so busy they kept my child as comfortable as possible.

Wendy in ultrasound for her great skills and advice, I know how busy you were. (Still wasn’t totally convinced)

Dr P and his great team of helpers, Bikash, Mahanama and Joe who looked after us so well and sorted out the pain and nausea so my child could get some sleep post op. (Thanks for the pictures, now I am convinced)

Dr S for looking after our child during surgery and checking on  post op.

To the wonderful theatre team Reni, Aleisha and Deb who looked after my child like they were their own. I know they appreciated how caring you were.

It is very different being on the other side when you know how things work. I cannot thank everyone enough for making my child's stay as pleasant as it was, and for looking after me too (because although I appear tough I am a mum who worries).

Thanks again

Mum

Dear Happy customer

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Geraldton Hospital and the Dongara Eneabba Mingenew Health Service (DEMHS). I’m so pleased to read of the excellent care your child received, as a mother myself I know how stressful it can be when your child is unwell. WA Country Health Service Midwest has an amazing team of compassionate caring staff who are dedicated to providing patient focused quality care. I will ensure that your compliment is passed on to the teams at the Geraldton Hospital and DEMHS.

The ETS that you mentioned is a wonderful service called the Emergency Telehealth Service. The ETS uses videoconferencing equipment to connect local clinical staff with emergency medicine specialists based in Perth who provide guidance to the local treating team. A consultation with an ETS doctor is just like any other ‘in person’ consultation and allows us to provide high quality specialist care close to home.

Thanks again for your feedback and I hope your child is making a speedy recovery and you have been able to catch up on some much needed rest.

Kind regards

Michele
