I had a very critical and complex set of injuries that required hospitalisation in Sydney at Royal Prince Albert Hospital for a few months. I also spent time in their intensive care. I also have had quite a lot of follow-up with specialists at Royal North Shore Hospital, and also the Sydney Eye Hospital.
So I have seen a lot of different aspects to hospitals in Sydney, and have been amazed by all the wonderful staff I saw, working in these hospitals - Doctors, Specialists, Surgeons & Nurses, and also all the staff who do all the pathology and medical imaging. I had so many difficult problems that were critical, but I felt very comfortable trusting in the excellent & knowledgeable staff attending me, and I know they definitely saved my life several times over.
All the staff I saw, were very kind and friendly through all my difficulties and suffering and continue to help with my recovery and other on-going complications.
We have a truly fantastic hospital system full of wonderful dedicated and excellently trained professionals. I felt very lucky to have had the Australian Healthcare System in this time, as it is highly likely I would have died in another country, without our level of expertise and universal coverage.
I was really touched personally by all the wonderful nurses who took care of my most basic and personal care needs, and became friends in my long and difficult stay, and impressed by the doctors and the skill with which they managed and treated all my complications.
I hope Australians will continue to value & cherish the universal coverage we have with Medicare, and don't undermine our hospitals through under funding etc in the future, as our hospitals are very precious, and provide a lot of chances for people to continue to live and contribute.
"3 month hospital stay - our public hospitals are amazing"
