I came down with a bad case of Gastroenteritis, was stabilised in Emergency then moved to a medical ward and kept in isolation. Blood samples were analysed, a chest X-ray taken, pills to bring the fever down and a faecal specimen sent to pathology for a culture to identify the exact bacterium responsible. This takes 48 hours. The diagnosis was Campylobacter. They then administered the appropriate treatment, a powerful antibiotic called Cyproxin, one dose intravenously then two days of pills. I was fine by the end.
My hypertension wouldn't respond to the usual medication. Doctors tried various combinations until my blood pressure stabilised.
Finally, Gout (first time! ) was fixed almost over night with pills.
"I spent six days in Angliss Hospital."
