"Dementia care concerns"

About: Maroondah Hospital

(as a carer),

My mother was admitted to Maroondah due to severe agitation and paranoia associated with dementia. I was contacted when Mum first arrived to give a doctor info about Mum. Mum was admitted to a ward and despite calling 3 times every day, I was never informed of medication changes and investigations being undertaken. None of the staff I spoke to had read Mum's history and knew what events transpired to get her into hospital in the first place. My Mum does not have the mental capacity to consent to any of the procedures she was taken through and no one  ever contacted me to seek consent.

Five days later, my Mum is still in the same ward.

I have been told psychiatrists are involved but have not been given any idea of their diagnosis or treatment plan.

Very upset family member here!

Dear Devoted daughter

Many thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback on Patient Opinion. I am very sorry this has been your experience and would welcome the opportunity to be able to do better.

If you would like to make contact with me privately at david.plunkett@easternhealth.org.au so I can get your mother's details in order to see what can be done with regards to your involvement in the care of your mother. Of course, if you choose not to make contact, I completely understand.

Either way I offer my apologies this has been your experience to date.

Kind regards

David
