My husband went in for help with his medication because his doctor was away and he had ran out, the withdrawals he will go through are devastating. He was made to wait for 3 hours only to be told that they couldn't help him and that they deal with minor problems that people have, not this kind of thing. I guess they don't view mental health as a problem worth doing anything about, so angry.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your feedback on Patient Opinion. I would like to apologise for your husband's experience at the Box Hill Hospital Emergency Department.

At all times, we aim to provide assistance to people when they present for assistance at one of the emergency departments across Eastern Health, no matter what the issue is that brings them to seek assistance. It is evident from your feedback that our communication and treatment of your husband was not at the level I would expect. I would like to use your experience as a learning opportunity for the Emergency Department staff so they better understand the impact they may have on a person's experience.

I hope your husband was able to source medication so he didn't experience the withdrawal symptoms you highlight. Please be assured an emergency department is always available should you believe this is the most suitable place to seek assistance, I thought I would also highlight there are 24 hour GP services available in the Box Hill area that, in some circumstances, may also be a suitable option to consider.
