"Waiting lists at RPH"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Outpatients Surgical Clinic

(as the patient),

I've been waiting for an outpatient appointment with spinal clinic for 12 months. My GP has made 2 referrals and I've also been told to present at ED which I have done. I have been told that I'm not a priority and that I could be waiting for a lot longer yet. All the time I'm losing function. I feel like I've been left to rot.

Dear not a priority,

Thank you so much for writing about your concerns here on this website with regard to your delayed outpatient appointment.

Unfortunately we are experiencing unprecedented demand for spinal appointments and surgery which has further been compounded by the resignation of a senior spinal consultant. We are doing everything we can to ensure the service is fully staffed as quickly as possible. Despite this, the demand for public services in this area will, unfortunately, mean a delay is inevitable.

All our patients are important to us and while some patients may require more urgent attention due to their conditions, this does not excuse the delays you are experiencing.

If you feel that your urgency has been incorrectly categorised and you are continuing to have concerns, can I please encourage you to request a review of your urgency through your general practitioner.

I once again apologise for the wait you are experiencing and thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.
