"Terrible time."

About: Knox Private Hospital Maroondah Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I broke my leg in 4 places while skateboarding at my cousin's house.

My experience at Maroondah makes me not want to ever go to hospital again! ! My doctor was a bit lousy too and seemed to have no idea what he was doing. I believe my leg almost had to be amputated, in my opinion due to the doctor's lack of patient care and sheer arrogance and unskillfulness.

I had 4 surgeries in the time I had broken my leg. One of my surgeries was at Knox Private, where my mother and myself had no trouble at all. Knox Private is a hospital that I'd like other hospitals to follow. Outstanding medical staff and experienced surgeons who know what they're doing. They did a fantastic job: )

At Maroondah, my experience was completely different. Every nurse that I had seemed to be in a rush and had no time for me, not to mention my surgeries where delayed 1 day in between each one. I waited in a bed for hours at a time, no food for about 10 hours. I lost a lot of weight and felt incredibly unwell for weeks.

The reason why I had extensive surgeries is because my doctor kept putting my leg in the wrong position. It took him 4 tries to put my leg in proper alignment. For 7 months after this dilemma, I had trouble using my leg and had to miss out on playing sports.

I would not wish for any patient to have the same doctor as I did. Every patient deserves quality care. I believe Maroondah failed miserably in that department.

I hope I never receive treatment like this if I get hurt again, nor do I want to end up in the Maroondah ED again! Pity they couldn't render the same care they gave to my dear grandfather who died from a heart attack a number of years ago. I feel very disappointed and wouldn't recommend to anyone seeking professional medical help.

Dear Skater,

I was concerned to hear about your experience at Eastern Health following your skateboarding accident and would like to offer my apologies for the distress caused. I am about to go on leave, but am very keen to follow this up and investigate your concerns about the care that was provided to you.

In order to do this, if you are agreeable, I invite you to contact our Director of Patient Experience, Jo Gatehouse via email at the following address jo.gatehouse@easternhealth.org.au with your details so that we can review your care and provide you with feedback. I would like to reassure you that your details will not be released on this website.

Once again, I am sorry to read about your experience and do hope that you will contact Jo so that we can investigate what happened.

Kind Regards,

David
