In the early hours of Easter Sunday, I was seen in the Emergency Department of Albany Hospital. I was in excruciating pain and was seen by the triage nurse immediately. He asked me what was wrong and I told him I was in severe pain and now being sick with the pain. He asked a few other questions and then brought me out some tablets for the pain and the vomiting. How wonderful to be heard and for something to be done about it then and there. Within a short space of time, I was in a bed and had a drip with more pain relief. The pain disappeared and I was amazed. The doctor popped in to say he might be a while as they were expecting the ambulance. I appreciated being kept informed. Then he came back in to say the emergency was averted and to examine me. Within a few minutes he had made a diagnosis which was confirmed by an ultrasound. Within 2 hours I was on my way back home with the discharge summary, a script and some medication to tide me over.
And guess what... the Easter Bunny had been to the ED and left some eggs so I took two home for my babies. Thanks to Phil the nurse and the ED doctor who got me pain free and home to my family in time for the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
