"Bentley Hospital"

About: Bentley Hospital / Ward 3

(as the patient),

This was my first hospital stay for an operation and I was very nervous to start with.

But my experience was enhanced by the amazing staffs who looked after me during those 23 hours.

I have to thank Jie, the nurse who has so much compassion and patience with all the patients in our ward, she should be highly commended. She is responsible, clear with her communication and kind.

Given that BH is a public health service, the only downside was getting all the patients to change ward at night 9pm (next to the nursery) then waking up all of us at 6am in the morning and walked ourselves back (carrying all our stuff and sheets) to Ward 3 where we were admitted.

Apart from the above, the staff who looked after us were really great and I could sensed the family bonding among the staff working in the department.

Good job!

Dear Pigadala,

Thank you for your very kind feedback about your experience at Bentley Hospital.

The challenge you describe is very real. The main focus of surgery at Bentley is day surgery and as a consequence the vast majority of patients are discharged at the end of the day. A small group however do need a longer period of observation and recovery before they can go home. Our challenge has been to be able to staff a large enough area with skilled staff overnight for a very variable, important, but small number of patients.

The solution has been to combine wards at night. Despite this we recognise the inconvenience that this may cause and are trying to improve on the experience you describe, on behalf of our patients. I will endeavour to feed back once we have worked through an alternative pathway but this has been and remains a real challenge.

With many thanks and apologies,

Dr Aresh Anwar
