"Redcliffe Hospital"

About: Redcliffe Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter recently gave birth to her first child at Redcliffe Hospital. While the care we received was good, I was upset at the comments made by one nurse on the maternity ward. My daughter was 19 when she gave birth, she conceived unexpectedly while on the contraceptive pill, but chose to keep the baby, a decision I fully supported her in. While we were walking from the delivery suite to the ward, a nurse asked me if I had any other children. I told her yes, 4 others aged 17 down to 10. She made some small talk about my kids and then I believe she said 'and you'll make sure you put them on contraception won't you?' At the time I was too gobsmacked to do anything but nod, but I am really annoyed that she took it upon herself to make judgments about my daughter's situation and my parenting. She is there to provide nursing care, not give unsolicited opinions and advice.
