"Community Health Reception"

About: Geraldton Community Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

When having a child comes the responsibility to maintain your own child's health checks as per the purple book given to you when you leave hospital. To do this I needed to make an appointment with a child health nurse at the recommended month. Unfortunately this has been more difficult and frustrating every time I attempted to do so as I continuously get an answering machine. I have rung several times in one day, as well as different days with only an answering machine to talk to. However there is still no response from leaving a message. Thankfully we have some amazing child health nurses that are able to make the appointment once connected to them from the main hospital reception. This becomes frustrating as you have to ring the same reception desk for all three child health centres and get the same response of no answer.

I am unfortunately not the only mother that has had this happen to, as I have spoken with several mothers who have had the same issue. Some mothers have given up on taking there child to the child health nurse due to this issue. I believe there needs to be either somebody in child health reception everyday or the phone diverted to someone that can make the appointments when the child health reception is unattended during working hours.

Hi Child Health Reception,

Thank you for sharing your concerns on Patient Opinion. Patient Opinion allows us to acknowledge your feedback and provide comment which, as an organisation, we are unable to do on other social media forums.

Child Health provides a vital support for parents and children through regularly scheduled health & development checks. It is of concern to us that you have experienced such difficulty getting these important appointments booked but I can reassure you this is something we are working very closely on currently as a result of feedback from other parents. While the Community Health Reception is manned 5 days a week from 8.00am until 4.30pm there are definitely times of higher demand and staff are developing strategies to ensure as many calls as possible are answered immediately and messages left are returned in a timely manner.

It appears from your feedback that you have now managed to make an appointment however if you have not been able to please contact Karen Street Director Population Health on 9956 1962 or 0427 479 297 and she will assist you to make the booking you require.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback on Patient Opinion, feedback is important and helps us improve our services. Please be assured that we are working on addressing this issue.

All the Best,

Michele
