"Great appreciation for Emergency Department at Geraldton Hospital"

Recently I have had to take some of my elderly relatives to the Emergency Department at Geraldton Hospital. In a smaller community like this we do not have much access to after hour GPs, so having the ED at this hospital is greatly appreciated.

Our first port of call is always the Health Direct Service, but sometimes their recommendation is that we go to the ED as the problem is one that should be dealt with urgently.

The staff at the hospital are really good, and are caring in the interactions I've had with them. In the most recent visit, I took my elderly aunt in. The wait time was 3 hours, but we understand this considering the growing size of the community. My aunt felt much calmer being in the hospital, knowing she was in a safe and caring environment.

I have noticed however that some of the nursing staff have mentioned how busy they are and have sometimes seemed run off their feet. But we really appreciate the service they are providing.

Overall I could not fault the staff and we are very appreciative to have access to the Emergency Department at Geraldton Hospital.

I am pleased to hear that you had a positive experience at Geraldton Hospital Emergency Department.

Calling the Health Direct Service to seek advice is a great first step and can assist the Geraldton Hospital Emergency Department care team to meet the needs of everyone who presents.

It is helpful for all involved when people present with supportive family members. The emergency department does get busy at times and your patience at the time would have been greatly appreciated.
