"Meals at Princess Margaret Hospital"

About: Princess Margaret Hospital for Children

(as a parent/guardian),

Last year my child was diagnosed with Leukemia, which has meant that we have had many stays at the hospital since then.

Recently the PMH has been bringing around breakfast bags to the wards to provide food to the family's of those that are being cared for at the hospital. This is a new service and I was absolutely amazed by this - it is often difficult to get out to get food so this service is greatly appreciated, not just by myself, but other families I have spoken to.

It offers a good range of food including things like cereal and milk, muffins, fruit and water. I also noticed a feedback form that was available asking which of two different options we would prefer.

I have just one request though - there isn't any gluten free options available, which means that a good portion of what is provided I can't eat. Given that gluten intolerance is much more common nowadays, it would be great if a few of the breakfast bags on each ward offered gluten free food, like gluten free Weet-Bix, muffins or bars.

Again, this service is really great, but this is a small oversight that would be easy to fix and greatly appreciated.

Dear Catering Options

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback to us about meals at PMH. I would like to firstly acknowledge that having a child in hospital is a stressful time for the whole family.

Our Patient Support Services were pleased to receive your feedback on our ‘Parent Breakfast Bags’. We are currently undertaking an evaluation of the contents of the bag, and your feedback regarding gluten free breakfast option was appreciated.

Based on your feedback, I am happy to advise you that a gluten free cereal option will soon be available for those parents who stay overnight with their child.

Thank you once again for taking the time to provide your feedback to us, it is much appreciated.

Kind regards

Dr Barbara King

Acting Executive Director

Princess Margaret Hospital
