I was taken to the emergency department recently and was immediately attended to as I was in a significant amount of pain and could not move. All the support staff, nurses and doctors were very professional and kind during a terribly anxiety provoking time. Despite the pain killers affecting my cognitive capacities, I felt that my family and I were kept informed with what was happening and how diagnosis and treatment were being decided, including consultations with the PA (Princess Alexandra Hospital)
I was then admitted into the Orthopaedic Ward where again I was impressed with the care and concern provided to me and my family by all staff, from the tea ladies, wards people to allied health and especially the nurses. The nurses had a wonderful sense of humour which was very effective in distracting attention from pain.
I am now at home and very fortunate not to have any damage to my spinal cord so am walking (somewhat tentatively) but feeling much better and well on my way to recovery thanks to the excellent level of care provided to me by ED staff as well as the nurses and allied health in ward 5.
Please pass on my deepest appreciation.
