"Pilbara drug and mental health"

(as the patient),

I am a client of Karratha Mental Health under Psychiatric Care. Anyway I hadn't been feeling well and could feel myself slipping in a manic state which can be scary and from past experience I can lose touch of reality. Anyway after talking to what I call an inexperienced triage nurse, asking if she could maybe talk to my psych and suggest what I can do? Her response was nothing I can do, you're booked into see him in a months time. So my response is for me to lose my 'thing' again, after coming so far. I went to a doctor and told them what happened. He agreed the behaviour of the triage nurse was just rude and unprofessional.

Dear Confusedone,

Thank you for your feedback on the service provided by the triage nurse. I’m sorry that our service did not meet your expectations. I apologise that you found our staff member rude and unprofessional. The work of WA Health Staff work is guided by a Code of Conduct which sets out values such as respect for our clients and to provide responsible care.

I can appreciate from what you have shared that you know your own mental health well and felt that you needed more immediate treatment than what was suggested by the triage nurse. I’m glad that you were able to see your doctor and were listened to. If you have any ongoing concerns about your current treatment please do get in contact with the Pilbara Mental Health and Drug Service or your doctor.

If you would like to get in contact and receive personal feedback from either the Hospital Operations Manager or the Director of the Pilbara Mental Health & Drug Service about the visit you have described our email address for consumer feedback is WACHS-Pilbara.Feedback@health.wa.gov.au

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience of the service you received. Your feedback has been passed on to relevant staff so we can do better in the future. I hope you are feeling well again soon.

Kind Regards,

Penny
