"Brain cancer"

I was admitted into Royal Adelaide Hospital on over a year ago having had an MRI that showed a Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumour. I was operated on 2 days later and I am lucky to still be alive. That is thanks to my surgeon and hospital staff and outpatient treatment. After leaving hospital 6 days later, I had 6 weeks of radiation therapy and 6 months of chemo treatment.

I live on Kangaroo Island, so I had to find accommodation for the weekly radiation and then travelled monthly for chemo appointments.

I have deep respect for all the hospital and medical staff who looked after me.

How I feel now is very insecure re the changes to the possible loss of radiology services in the new RAH. I can't understand the need to privatise services which have served the community so well. The idea of radiology staff losing their jobs through privatisation is difficult to comprehend. I am still needing to have MRIs and appointments with my neurosurgeon and staff. So far, I have been waiting for a month to hear about a date for my next appointment and I understand that's because it's difficult to secure a firm date for an MRI. Appointments are very important to my mental health and therefore to my length of life. I hope SA Health will reconsider its decision to privatise these services which are so essential to community health and well being.
