"Great care in the ED at QEII Hospital"

About: Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had been feeling unwell for a week, saw a GP (not my own as could not get booking) and another GP a day later. Both GP advise adhered to despite reservations due to past problems with a similar illness and knowledge of how I usually have a resolve stated to both GP's.

My visit to the casualty was with reservation as I know it is not a GP service but, as a nurse, I was not able to work, not functioning at home and going downhill fast. The reception staff (triage and admin) were fabulous, I went fast-track which was okay given the circumstances of a fairly simple issue.

Dr Daniel, who was on duty, listened to history, did assessment and came to a conclusion of treatment - the recommended treatment for simple tonsillitis with the addition of other medication to reduce swelling in my throat. It was a treatment I would have expected with the issues in hand.

15 hours later, I was a new woman, could actually swallow and sleep four hours after discharge and although weak from overall effects and a three kilo weight loss (maybe a good side effect!), I felt so much better.

Dr Daniel did not need any fancy equipment or emergency room for my care which highlights to me the need of education to some of our GP's on care of tonsillitis (aware they have limited time and resources and see many clients with similar issues that are viral).

I would also like to acknowledge the tall male nurse on that shift who popped in the check I was okay and ensure our needs were met.

I am so grateful for the care received which was courteous, non judgemental and professional. Your staff in the ED are a credit to QLD health and I would like to ensure they are aware of my feedback. Hoping to return to work on Monday to look after my babies safely (in the context of a well child home visit service) and these little babies will have the QEII ED to thank for ensuring their health by keeping health care professionals well.
