"Why did my father develop a pressure sore within days of being admitted to the ward?"

About: Armadale Hospital

(as a relative),

I would like some feedback as to why my father developed a grade 1 pressure sore whilst being admitted to the ward after leaving ICU? Additionally why his pressure area on his left 5th toe/metatarsal had not been recognised and dressed appropriately on his previous admission to the rehab ward?

Dear Concerned but also appreciative,

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your concerns about your father’s care at the Armadale Health Service.

Our staff strive to provide the best possible care and we have a number of skin care, equipment and intervention strategies in place to prevent, identify and manage pressure injuries. It is therefore very disappointing to learn that your father had developed a pressure sore whilst in hospital and we believe this is unacceptable.

I am sorry that the standard of care you have described has fallen short of your expectations of the hospital and would be very grateful if you would consider contacting our Consumer Liaison Services on 9391 1153 so that we can further explore your concerns.

This will enable us to identify areas where we can improve on and to make the necessary changes to ensure it does not happen again.

Once again, thank you for bringing this to my attention and I look forward to hearing from you.

With kind regards,

Shae Seymour
