"Triage Process"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus

(as a relative),

Attended Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital Emergency Department this evening. Glad to say we didn’t have to wait in the waiting room for too long before being called to the triage desk. This is where our concerns began. Seated at the desk with the triage nurse behind glass we were asked to report what our concerns were. In front of the whole waiting room we had to detail our issues which given the nature we didn’t feel the whole waiting room needed to hear. What happened to patient confidentiality Kalgoorlie Hospital? Really not a great start to patient care.

Thank you for your feedback, I sincerely appreciate what you are saying. The design of our Emergency Department is typical of modern standards, almost any emergency department you go to you will have to present at a triage window in the first instance and discuss your circumstances. The triage nurses are sensitive to this and will move people into the secondary assessment area where they detect that the presenting complaint is private in nature, or when the person requests up front a more private area to discuss their situation. I apologise that in this case the need to bring you into the secondary assessment area wasn’t recognised. We will ensure that all our triage staff know to use the secondary assessment area when matters of a private nature are expressed. Thank you for letting us know of the issue.
