"About patient care"

About: Royal Perth Hospital

(as the patient),

I recently had an operation. That evening the night shift staff didn't give me any medication for pain. The night nurse said there was nothing charted. During the early hours of the morning I was crying in pain, then given some meds.

The day staff was really great and caring. A nurse on day duty checked the charted meds from the night nurse and I believe she had just put meds - as charted. I complained and the team on that day came to see me and were going to check this out. I was then given the proper medication, thanks to the day nurse with a pleasant caring attitude.

I am very happy with my surgeon and his team for doing a great job.

Dear Recent op,

Thank you for your feedback. It is disappointingly not acceptable to be left in pain, and we expect the standard of care for patients to be high seven days a week, and 24 hours a day.

I will bring your concern to the attention of our night teams as well as the pain team.

I hope you have had a good recovery.

Best wishes

Dr Aresh Anwar
