"My first time experience at rehabilitation house"

About: Logan House Residential Rehabilitation Facility

(as the patient),

I arrived feeling excited and very hopeful that after my commitment of 6 months I would arrive home drug free and ready to build a new life. Well it wasn't what I expected due to what I had read on the internet. I only lasted 5 days and most the time I spent crying and became very depressed. Every time I wanted to go home I would remind myself why I was there and tell myself give it one more day. I don't believe that I wasn't ready as I wanted this. I believe their idea of rehabilitation wasn't for me - no good for my Mental Health, as all it was was basically making you clean and cook and do outside work, and paperwork that required you to make a relapse plan and asking others questions than talking about it. It was like being at school that's how I felt, not like an adult at all. There was only one narcotics anonymous / alcoholics anonymous meeting a week and I ever saw anyone getting one on one or group counselling like they said. Plus, no recreational outing - only on your own when you advanced to a higher group; and what was disappointing was if you wanted to use the gym or swimming pool you would have to try find someone interested or available as you have to be in a pair to use them. Once again I felt like a child. Also at the feelings meetings twice a day, they would bring up who had broken rules (example: didn't wash your cup up, left bowl on table), then they would read out your punishment. Then they would complain about other residents, for example, if someone else was bothered by something else someone said or did. Being honest, I just couldn't believe it. I found it very upsetting, to me it was childish behaviour. I couldn't make another day after 5 days, so I left, went home and started using again. In my opinion that place totally destroyed all my hope. Now I feel like my drug addiction will eventually kill me, that was my experience at Logan house, through Lives Lived Well.

Hello Leo the lion

Thank you for taking the time to tell us of your difficult experience in rehabilitation.

I am sorry your experience did not match up with the commitment, readiness and excitement you felt when you began your rehabilitation journey. I am sorry too, that the experience did not meet your expectations and you felt the best course of action was to leave.

At Lives Lived Well we value feedback from our clients and I am concerned about how this experience has impacted you. I would like to talk to you about it further to explore other options. We have community services programs that may be a more suitable option for you. If you are interested in exploring other options, please phone 1300 727 957 and ask to speak to Gerard (Manager, Clinical Services) or Kirsty (Acting Manager Logan House). Please leave a message from Leo the lion and a contact number or email address, in case either of us is not immediately available, so we can get back to you.

Warm regards

Gerard
