Recently I had the need to visit the Emergency Department of the Geraldton Regional Hospital. My treatment meant that I had to visit the medical staff three days in a row.
My first impression was a little guarded. The security measures were eye opening. One hears stories of the poor treatment of staff at hospitals so I could understand the measures taken.
The triage ladies and the clerical staff were all polite and efficient in processing my case.
A number of staff members stood out for the professional and friendly way in which they dealt with me. (Apologies if the names aren't spot on). 'MJ' handled my initial examination. She found out why I was in Geraldton and was able to relate her experiences in a similar pursuit. On my second visit we discussed the tough side of nursing while she 'filled me up' with antibiotics. Ashley (it could have been Emily- sorry? ) gave me my first 'syringe full' of antibiotics. I was impressed with the quiet, professional way she went about finding an appropriate vein on a dehydrated southerner and administering the 'good juice'. Dr. Ben saw me on all three occasions. He made an accurate diagnosis and provided an effective plan for treatment. Long conversations about similar interests and social issues with the 'Doc' helped pass the time in the E. D.
Management of the hospital should be proud of the whole group of health professionals in their Emergency Department.
Thank you.
"Excellent patient care at Geraldton Regional Hospital."
