My young grandchild was taken to emergency because of high fevers. Parents unable to reduce fever with panadol. Child pale, halitosis, enlarged lymph glands bilaterally in neck. Arrived in ED and triaged. Doctor saw child, looked for a rash on body, felt glands, stated - it's going around, lasts a week if no better in 48 hrs see a GP. Did not listen to chest. Child had a moist cough was a premature baby sent to Melbourne with bilateral chest drains 48 hrs post birth. Doctor did not examine throat because the child was a sleep! Child taken to a GP the next morning. Diagnosis tonsillitis, almost touching each other exuding pus. Stat antibiotics for two weeks commenced. As a nurse I am furious at what I consider to be an inadequate examination of my grandchild.
