We have been in the care of a particular ward at PMH for over 2. 5 years now. Apparently there is a change of protocol that means when our child is having a medical emergency we can no longer take them straight to this ward. We need to go to ED first.
We arrived late in the evening and was put straight into isolation, which was good as our child's immune system is compromised. This is where good stopped. It basically took 3 hours to make our child downstairs to their bed. Staff in the ward hadn't even been informed we'd arrived and they had previously put our child in the system so ED knew they were expecting him. I ended up phoning them myself as every staff member, who were very busy, obviously omitted to follow up on what they said they were doing.
I understand that the protocol must be followed in most cases, but I really think that any ongoing patients of this ward should still be allowed to go straight to the ward, bypassing germs from other people's illnesses and receiving the rapid treatment that they need.
