"Cramped patient seating in specialist appointment area."

About: Broome Health Campus

(as the patient),

I have no complaints about staff and treatment. I feel we couldn't ask for better but I would like to know if anything is planned for a better waiting area in the specialist appointment waiting area of the hospital. The initial waiting area is too small for the number of people waiting for their specialist appointment. The linear seating arrangement makes you feel that you're on a production line. Perhaps if there was  a more informal seating arrangement a patient would feel more comfortable and this would relieve patient stress and anxiety.

During my recent appointment I spent 30 minutes in the initial waiting room and a  further 40 minutes in a corridor with cramped seating adjacent to the specialist rooms .This corridor is also a thoroughfare with continuous coming and going of staff and patients, all of which adds to patient discomfort. Perhaps the conditions and processes need to be reviewed.

Dear Cramping up

Thank you for posting your feedback on the seating arrangements in the specialist centre and your appreciation for the staff.

The specialist centre can be a busy service, especially if there are a number of specialists running clinics at the one time.

Your comments on the seating arrangements and suggestion to review/change the environment have been taken onboard and referred to the Broome acting Operations Manager, Shane Bolton for comment.

Once again, thank you for your feedback.

Kind regards

Maureen Crowther

Dear Cramping Up

I am very sorry that that your experience in the waiting room was not as comfortable or relaxing as it could have been. We recognise that within busy departments such non admitted services, our seating options need to allow for patient safety and comfort but also maximise the space available for the required number of patients to be able to take a seat. We have also looked at the secondary seating areas where you were seated prior to seeing your Doctor. Whilst we recognise that this space is confined, it is used to facilitate the clinical workflow for ophthalmology patients. None the less, we are looking at ways to improve the seating in this area to make it pleasant and relaxing for patients who are waiting to be seen by a specialist.

Once again, thank you for your feedback.

Regards

Shane Bolton
