"Life saving care at Geraldton and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as a relative),

My husband was admitted to Geraldton Regional Hospital after collapsing. The staff there were helpful and caring. The prognosis for him was not good. He was not going to last the night. He did though and they did another scan which was sent to Perth. The surgeon on there said to get him to Perth as soon as possible. The staff at Sir Charles Gairdner were terrific. The surgeon rang me himself to inform me that he was about to operate and that he would ring again when he had finished, which he did in the early hours of the morning as that is when the operation was finished. The staff at this hospital were great as I was always informed about what was going to happen. My husband suffered an aortic embolism, which 1 in 5 survives. He was the 1 who did. I will always praise the staff at Geraldton Regional Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback to the staff at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital that operated on and cared for your husband during this time.

I will make sure that this feedback is provided back to the surgical division staff.

Dear extremely grateful,

Thank you for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. I was so pleased to hear of your husband's positive outcome after suffering such a serious medical issue, it must have been a very frightening experience. Geraldton Hospital as part of WA Country Health Service (WACHS) aims to deliver high quality, professional health care and it is reassuring to hear that your experience was a positive one despite the circumstances. I will take great pride in passing your compliment on to the team at the Geraldton Hospital as I know they will really appreciate it.

WACHS works closely with medical specialists based at tertiary hospitals like Sir Charles Gairdner to ensure patients in regional areas have access to high-level specialist medical care. It is very heartening to hear that your husband’s surgeon kept in touch with you and updated you on your husband’s care and condition, I’m certain it was a great comfort at a very stressful time.

I have been advised that Patient Opinion has informed Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital of your wonderful compliment and Tony Dolan A/Executive Director, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital has responded to you.

Thank you for taking the time to write and I hope your husband is continuing on the road to recovery

Best Wishes

Michele
