"A patient who was admitted whilst on holidays"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

Speaking on behalf of a resident who was on holidays from his aged care facility when he became unwell and needed to be admitted to Wonthaggi Hospital for treatment.

Staff in Emergency Dept. were very good and treated him well. When it came to discharge, the facility where the resident came from asked for the resident to be transferred back to a particular facility via patient transport. A woman who I believe was in a managerial position and in my opinion was incredibly rude, flatly refused to do so with no real reason given. She wanted to send the resident back to where the other residents were staying, even though the General Manager from the facility clearly indicated that she did not want this to occur for multiple reasons.

I feel there are incredibly poor communicators at the hospital and I believe many untruths were also told throughout this process. Shame on you Wonthaggi Hospital. In my opinion you need to improve your manners and co-operation with patients, families and others.

Dear Concerned advocate

Thank you for taking the time to post this complaint - I have also received your detailed letter of complaint that was sent via Facsimile on Friday, and I have forwarded it to the Emergency Department management team for investigation. We very much appreciate you providing us with your feedback and we will make contact with you at the facility as soon as we have spoken to the staff who were involved in your residents' care. Please accept my apology for any distress caused to the resident and his family, and please be assured that we will use this as a learning opportunity - communication with partners in care is a priority for BCH and respectful communication is core to our values.

Kind Regards,

Jan.
