"Visiting friends - made easy"

About: Geraldton Hospital

(as a volunteer/advocate),

My husband and I like to visit friends from our Seniors Group when they are hospitalised. Unfortunately I was having trouble walking for any distance earlier this year (this may continue). The helpful, friendly ladies at the entrance very obligingly rang for a wheelchair if none were available, ensuring my husband could push me along the very long passage to the wards. We know, from our own stays in the Regional, how enjoyable visits are when we are ill.

Although my husband could do with a few driving lessons we managed very well.

Thank you.

Dear fortunate

Thank you for taking the time to write and sharing your experience with us on Patient Opinion. The lovely ladies that you refer to are part of the team that provide the Geraldton Hospital meet and greet and information service. This service is supported by a wonderful group of volunteers who go above and beyond ensuring our health service users feel welcomed and are directed to where they need to go.

Geraldton Hospital prides itself on delivering patient-first, professional, friendly service to everyone who visits our hospital, and I am very pleased to hear that you experienced that first hand. I will ensure your feedback is passed on to our team as I know they will appreciate the compliment.

Receiving visits from friends and family plays an important role in our patients recovery, and makes a hospital stay much more enjoyable. I’m almost certain your friends would have had a much brighter day after you and your husband’s visit once you arrived safe and sound after what sounds like an interesting journey with a novice wheelchair driver.

Thanks again for sharing your story and I wish you the best for the future.

Best Wishes

Michele
