"Outstanding service"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as a relative),

I was requested by my grandchild to accompany them to an out patient clinic which I did.

My grandchild has conditions which are difficult illnesses to treat.

The specialist  had not treated my grandchild before, but was sent to see him because of some underlying concerns which he specialised in.

For one and a half hours he spoke with my grandchild, seeking out every piece of information he could. Then after an examination, explained what he was going to do in the way of additional tests required, the reasons for this, and possible outcomes.

He had obviously had experience in the wisdom of "seek first to understand" and the desire to "listen to the patient"

This was two hours of  pure professionalism I have never seen before, and this doctor is well regarded by his patients I was lead to believe.

He will not wish the attention I know, but his name was Dr Chan.

Dear worthless2,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of the Outpatient Department at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital with us. I appreciate it must be a difficult time for your grandchild and family transitioning from children to adult services and getting to know a new health care team. It was heartening to hear your story of how the doctor spent so much time listening, explaining and getting to know you without rushing, and leaving you both with such a positive impression.

I will pass on your feedback to the Outpatient Department team and the doctor.

I wish you and your grandchild a continuing positive relationship with Charlies.

Kind regards

Jennifer Francis, A/Director Safety Quality & Performance
