Recently my sister was admitted to SCGH for cancer treatment. Unfortunately, the cancer was not discovered until too late and there was no treatment available. On her first admission, I visited her and found the staff to be very friendly, cheerful and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble to ensure that she was comfortable and undistressed. The second admission was the same, the compassion shown by the staff towards our complete family was such a comfort. Each time they were required to intervene, they would always explain what was happening and ensured that my sister remained pain free for her final days. As a worker in WA Health, I am aware of the 'bad stories' that get bandied around, but so often, people forget to acknowledge the good stories. I would just like to say thank you to the Doctors and staff at SCGH, Wards 72 and 74 in particular, for their caring, compassionate attitudes towards not only the patients, but also the patients family, who are also suffering.
